Shining the spotlight on equality at Him in Heels
A group of 27 local businessmen squeezed into stilettos and walked along the breakwall at Town Green on Thursday 1 March, to shine the spotlight on the issue of gender parity while raising funds for local domestic violence services.
Winner of best heels was Steve Foye from Peak Coffee, with his glittering red show-stoppers, while Michael Percival from Percival Property took out the prize for best dressed.The event was a fun way to raise awareness around the need to close the gender pay gap and ensure gender parity in the workplace.
Our generous participants paid $200 for the privilege, with proceeds going to the Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Service for much needed renovations to the women and children's refuge.Thank you to everyone who took a stand in their heels, and to our event sponsor, the Regional and Agri-Business team at the Commonwealth Bank Port Macquarie.
At the event, Kylie Naylor, Operations Manager of the Domestic and Family Violence Specialist Service spoke about their men's change behaviour program, Step Up Mate.The program has identified that men are more responsive when other men raise these issues, and she urged the men to tap their mates on the shoulder if they see inappropriate behaviour and say 'hey mate, do you think that's okay'.
The event was a precursor to the International Women's Day Breakfast at Panthers on Thursday 8 March, where the 2018 Hastings Heroines Awards winners will be announced. Tickets are selling fast. Book online today.
